Australia is a major agricultural producer sitting on world-class renewable fuel feedstocks. The technologies to convert them are proven and bankable. Federal funding exists for exactly this type of project. The demand from aviation, mining, and heavy transport is structural and growing.
What has been missing is the first commercial reference project — a site that proves the model, de-risks the engineering, and creates the template for replication. That is what the ARCF in Esperance is designed to be: not just Facility 1, but the design that makes Facilities 2, 3, and 4 materially cheaper and faster to deliver.
Fit-for-purpose scale means less disruption, lower infrastructure demand, and a facility that a regional community can absorb and genuinely benefit from.
Sized to fit — not to dominate
30–60 MLpa fits existing road corridors and community infrastructure. Scheduled truck windows and RFID logistics keep heavy movements compatible with town life.
Local employment, first
35–42 permanent skilled jobs per facility at 60 MLpa. At least 70% filled by local residents — operators, technicians, lab staff, logistics.
TAFE pathways in renewable fuels
Joint apprenticeship programs with regional TAFEs — a new career pathway in renewable fuels built alongside the facility, replicable at every network site.
Environmental integrity by design
Straw removal rates calibrated to maintain soil carbon. Digestate return reduces synthetic fertiliser imports. Biochar improves soil health. Sustainability is operational practice.
